MCU’s supremo Kevin Feige recently unveiled the future of the MCU at the San Francisco comic con and all of us i.e; Marvel fans are overwhelmed to see the sheer amount of projects that are coming for us in the near as well as distant future. There are so many announcements at once that even seasoned Marvel fans may need a minute or so to process the whole scene at the moment. And let me tell you, as a fellow die-hard MCU fanboy I feel you.
That’s why we at 99 Chill thought that it would be mutually beneficial to do a complete breakdown of the entire event’s happenings for you guys and for us too. So here it is, a simplified explanation of what was announced at San Diego and all that you can expect from the future of the MCU.
Right now we are witnessing phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe which began with the culmination of the infinity saga with Avengers: Endgame. The first three phases of the MCU were massively successful and made MCU what they are today. And when phase 4 was announced and showcased for the first time people were as pumped as they are with their recent announcements for phase 5&6.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Official Teaser
But a fair amount of time has passed since then and well… we are quite close to the end of this phase as well. The MCU heads have confirmed that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever would be the final movie and She-Hulk the final show in phase 4 of their journey which is also given the moniker of the Multiverse saga, which would go on till phase 6. This seems quite apt too given the heroes and the villains we are going to witness.
Marvel studios did not shy away from showcasing all the amazing prospects they have planned over the next phases of the Marvel cinematic universe. From the most anticipated to the exciting new additions here is a list of all the shows in the upcoming 2 phases of MCU.
This phase of MCU is going to change in so many capacities that writing all of them would not be very functional so let us just take a brief look at all the movies and shows we are going to see in the 5th phase of MCU. San Diego Comic-Con became the venue of the Marvel Phase 5 reveal
This much-awaited movie would complete the Ant-Man Trilogy in MCU and fans have been waiting for it since its initial tease around the time of phase four’s announcement. Scott Lang and Hope Pym would be seen once again on screen, this time encountering much more powerful villains. This one has the potential to be the next big film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The MCU’s most mysterious and badass character Director Nicholas J. Fury would finally make a proper comeback with this Disney+ live-action show. The plot of the show would be based on the revered Secret Invasion comics in which the shape-shifting Skrulls have invaded earth and have tightened their grip on many important places here.
Probably the most sought-after movie of this phase. It feels like it's been a lifetime since GoTG VOL. 2 premiered and oh how good it was. But what built this current hype for its third iteration was its post-credit scene, which confirmed the arrival of Adam Warlock into the MCU.
Hawkeye on Disney+ was a refreshing and visual treat for Hawkeye fans, as we got to see one of the only 2 surviving avengers from the original band. But apart from that, we got a new villain into the MCU in form of Kingpin and Echo as the first deaf superhero of the MCU. The studio is all set to give a spin-off to this brand new hero. It would be interesting to see what they do with this one and incorporate it into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s diverse roster.
Let's be honest now, Captain Marvel was a hit or miss for most of us. I liked it, though some people had very critical reviews on it. Nevertheless, it paved the way for the introduction of Captain Marvel into the MCU timeline. The latest show Ms Marvel’s finale confirmed the arrival of the next Captain Marvel movie for the first time.
I am personally very amped for this one as the first season of Loki just blew us all away with the number of things it had. Be it the introduction to the multiverse, the new all-powerful villain of the MCU or the amazing casting and performances. The expectations from this upcoming season of Loki are quite high.
This is an entirely new addition to the MCU and frankly, there is not enough info about it just yet. But it can come out as a dark horse among the massive shows in this phase.
All that we know about this new superhero in the MCU is that she’ll be the next ironman in the new avengers. Things would get transparent once Black panther Wakanda forever hits the theatres.
Another show that is very likely to be a big grosser. Because after Wandavisison the character of Agatha Harkness is nowhere to be seen. And we have all the reasons to believe this powerful Witch would be a formidable adversary for the new heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
If you are a fan of charlie Cox’s Daredevil you are in for a treat, as MCU is finally giving this blinf=d superhero a whole new life with this new series. Earlier the OG show was ported to Dinsey+ from Netflix.
The last big movie of phase 5 would be the 4th Captain America movie with Sam Wilson as the new Star Spangled Man with a plan. Now, there isn't any solid news about the story but it would be after the events of that time’s MCU world only.
Though it is still a dream for MCU fans to see the Sinister Six in a live-action series, the studio has provided its alternative for now which packs a lot of promise. The thunderbolts would be the new non-omnipotent villains of the MCU. it would asl obe the last entry in the 5th phase of the MCU.
Although there wasn't much chatter about the Marvelphase 6 at SDCC’s event from Marvel, they announced the three most significant movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s sixth phase are as follows:
Just like Quantamania, Fantastic 4 was teased a long time ago too but after the cameo of Reed Richard’s Mr Fantastic in the Illuminati and the latest announcement, the arrival of the fantastic 4 to the MCU is confirmed.
The multiverse saga would lead to this point in phase 6 where we can expect an infinity war and endgame-like premise of these two movies, the Kang dynasty and secret wars. The new avengers are expected to hold the responsibility of saving the world from the substantially more powerful villain in form of Kang The Conquerer. He is also supposed to be an important Marvelphase 5 villain with appearances throughout the phase.
Now, this would be an interesting movie to wait and see as the secret wars franchise is famous for the elimination or creation of new timelines in Marvel comics. Whether the same would be the case for the movie is yet to be confirmed.
The MCU is all set to welcome its new-age superheroes and form its new team of extraordinary people who can save the world against all odds. The new avengers would be the focal point of these two phases with other heroes.
After the defeat of the Mad-Titan Thanos and other important villains through phases 1-3 studio needed to come up with the next set of antagonists in the future timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And they did not disappoint at all with the villains like Kang The Conquerer, Agatha Harkness, Thunderbolts etc.
Apart from all the major announcements, there are some rumours and other additions to the MCU’s future. The most highlighted news was the arrival of The X-Men in the MCU, which has been due for a long time. Other than that there were not even hits suggesting anything about Marvel phase 7, so guess that would be a mystery for another time.
Now the big question is, what to make of all this? What is the result for an average Marvel fan? Well, in a single word, excitement. The MCU is now heading towards a more complex and more diverse horizon from here on. And that means lots of exciting changes and many things left behind. So my suggestion as a fellow fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is just to go with the flow and enjoy as and when the goods come to you. You only enjoy those movies and shows to the fullest when you’re watching them as a fan and not as a critique.
And in the meantime go on and catch up on all the Marvel phase 4 Disney plus shows and the movies that are available there. And we will see you guys again very soon.
